Brigham Young University – Hawaii Yearbook Collection

The Brigham Young University–Hawaii Yearbook Collection provides digital access to Na Hoa Pono, the official yearbook of Church College of Hawaii (CCH), later Brigham Young University–Hawaii (BYU–Hawaii). First published in 1956 for the 1955–1956 academic year, Na Hoa Pono documented the students, faculty, staff, programs, organizations, activities, and events that shaped campus life.

The yearbooks provide a rich visual and documentary record of the university community across several decades. Individual volumes include student and faculty portraits, academic programs, student organizations and cultural clubs, athletics, performances, campus events, and other aspects of student and institutional life. Photographs and written features document the development of the campus and its programs as well as the experiences of students who came to Lāʻie from Hawaiʻi, the Pacific, Asia, the continental United States, and other parts of the world.

Na Hoa Pono was published intermittently throughout its history. The yearbook was published from 1956 to 1971, returned in 1976 and 1978, and was revived during later periods before its final publication in 2000. Gaps in the chronological sequence generally represent years in which Na Hoa Pono was not published.

This digital collection contains digitized copies of Na Hoa Pono from the physical holdings of the Joseph F. Smith Library Archives and Special Collections at Brigham Young University–Hawaii. The digitized volumes preserve the photographs, text, layouts, advertisements, artwork, and other content of the original yearbooks and are presented according to their year of publication.

Together, the yearbooks offer an important resource for studying the history of Church College of Hawaii and Brigham Young University–Hawaii and the people who formed its community. The collection is particularly useful for research into students, faculty and staff, academic programs, athletics, student organizations, cultural activities, campus traditions, university events, and the development of the institution and its multicultural community over time.
